The Well

Writer: Heather Gerhart, BSN, LMFTHeather Gerhart, BSN, LMFT

Find a quiet place where you can sit and be still.

Close your eyes and breathe. Just breathe.

What thoughts are coming up? Acknowledge them and then let them go. Practice release as you breath in slowly and then exhale.

Release is how we clear space in our hearts and minds for something greater to emerge.

But we will never know how deep the well of our souls, nor the richness of those waters, if we never drop the bucket.

****

Take time to gather up all the parts of yourself; the scared parts, the hurt and lonely ones, the controlling, managing, caretaking, and self-critical ones... The impulsive, angry, “I’ll do whatever it takes to make these bad feelings go away” parts—

Gather them up, pull them close and breathe love into each one as you lower your bucket. Anticipate a filling beyond your wildest dreams and never stop coming back.

****

In the midst of all the demands of life, it is easy to lose sight of ourselves and forgo going to the well. The journey towards self-love and care of that self is a spiritual journey. Despite the misguided notions religion often confronts us with regarding “Self”, the journey inward is one we all must take if we are to find God, who we are in Him, and live out of His infinite wells of love, mercy, grace and peace.

You are loved with an everlasting, unconditional love. The deep wells of love that reside within each of us, connect us to the truest version of ourselves, who we were created to be. Opening to love and visiting the well often, not only honors our creator, it also fills and equips us to pour that love out onto others.

You are worthy of the love that is already inside you. Don't be afraid to draw from it and bring it forth.
