FAQ
So, you are curious...
You may want to know;
You talk about God on your website. Are you religious?
Well…. Yes…. AND No.
Just like everything else, religion has it’s pros and cons but it seems now more than ever our society is focused on the ways religion has harmed people, and admitting that you are religious seems to carry with it a certain kind of stigma depending on who you talk to. So, yes I am religious, but perhaps not in the way you think of that term. As a Christian my faith is centered around a healing relationship with Christ, so for me, my religion and my work go hand in hand. My faith grounds me and propels me in the work that I do with people but that doesn’t mean I am going to evangelize to you. My faith is mine and yours is yours. Therapy is always about YOU and helping you to connect with your deepest truest essence as you navigate the challenges of life.
Is the therapy you offer religious?
Therapy is not inherently religious or non religious. It is a healing relationship. And, on my end, it is a relationship that is governed by professional ethical standards and guidelines, the greatest one being “do no harm”.
For those who want a faith based approach I am happy to explore and integrate Christian perspectives but that largely depends on YOU and what YOU bring into the relationship. My role and process as a therapist doesn’t change. I respect other faith backgrounds but admittedly cannot help you grow in a faith tradition that I do not participate in.
Therapy is for YOU and I am committed to meeting you where you are and walking alongside you on your journey towards health and wholeness. Whether you are Christian or not, I think you can benefit from a therapeutic relationship with me.
Do you just see couples and families?
No. I see individuals, couples, families and kids. People often feel confused when they see my credentials and think that as a Marriage and Family Therapist I only see couples and families. One of the defining features of my credentialing is the emphasis on systems and the high value placed on families. Whether I am working with individuals, couples or families, I am aware that my influence can and does cause ripple effects and I work hard to ensure that we are working towards healthy attachments and connections in all directions.
Do you specialize in anything?
I have a heart for hurting people and at this point in time I do not prefer to specialize in any particular area of therapy or modality . It is my mission to make therapy as accessible as possible to everyone that needs and wants it. I have experience working with kids and people of all ages. Your "ask" is not too big or too small for me. That being said, I know and understand that I won't be the perfect fit for everyone so if you decide to reach out, this is something we can navigate together! I may be the first step towards getting connecting with a provider that is a good fit for you.
